A quick mention…
…to Morgan for her sterling work!
I was worried that this would get buried in the comments so here it is in it’s own post. It’s worth a look!

…some close friends of mine here in Norwich are selling some Vitra sideshells and I said I would put them up on here for them.
Maybe we could have a for sale section on here? Thoughts?
Dear CF,
I recently did the unthinkable and bought two Eames DCW (Dining Chair Wood) chairs that are knockoffs. In my defense, they are pretty good quality reproductions, made by American Modern Furniture, and they retail for $300/ea. I spent $120 on the pair of them, so it was a deal that couldn’t be passed up on. The problem is that the original owner’s aesthetics are a bit questionable… He purchased the chairs with a black finish on everything except the seats, which are blonde. This two-tone color scheme is an abomination in my opinion. My question is what should I do to fix them? I’m guessing sanding is out of the question on the black-dyed parts as the penetrating stain would be pretty deep in the wood. I’ve seen red DCW/LCW chairs and they are pretty cool. Since these are knock-offs I would feel too bad about scuffing them up, priming in gray and painting them a nice fire engine red color, then some clearcoats, but any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
Steve
Dear CF
Had this nice note from Morgan! Thanks for the email!
Hi,
I’m restoring a set of six side shells with the help of your site and my own experiences with fixing up chairs.
I’m going to post about my restoration and link to your tutorial on monday. Here is a little snippet of the blog if you’d like to check it out.

Just wanted to say thanks and hope you can see how they turned out.
Thanks,
